My understanding from my nut & bolt buddies, is most B7 hardware is 4140 or 4142 quenched & tempered. Some other alloys are used, but all are pretty similar to 4140. B7, 4140 pre hard, or Q&T is 28-32 Rc, and very friendly to machine. More so than 4140 annealed, and much more so than mild. Glenn said that too!
