With the exploration and innovation of company people, gradually formed four major advantageous products: steel plate, steel pipe, stainless steel, special steel.
Can anyone comment on the difference between the machinability of A572 versus A36. We are currently turning a part made of A36, the machine shop is finding that it is excessively gummy to the point where they have to replace inserts. A572 is similar in price and meets the yield strength criteria, but I am unsure on the machinabilty of the material.
I'm running round disks that have been burned out in a cnc lathe. The material is A572 Grade 50. The plate is .5 thick and I am facing both sides down to a finished dimension of .45-.47.. I am having issues with tool life. Inserts are wearing fast. Just now switched to a Seco WNMG432-M3 TP200 a572 gr50 machinability

Tolerance under specified thickness .010". A 3/4 x 52" wide plate, for example, would have a tolerance range of .740/.780" Because of tolerances, i.e. thickness, flatness and camber, as well as the hot roll condition, ASTM A572 Grade 50 generally does not finish to specified thickness.
A572 steel is available in five different grades: 42, 50, 55, 60, and 65. Each grade number indicates the yield strength of this high strength, low alloy steel. Its multiple favorable properties make it a staple for construction applications. Strength, Weldability, and Machinability. One of the most commonly used A572 grades is A572-50.
ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel MACHINEABILITY AND WELDABILITY Machinability is rated at 66% of B1112. Average cutting speed 110 ft/min. Easily welded by all commercial methods. HEAT TREATING ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel is generally used in the "as supplied" condition. Annealing, if required, can be done at 1700 F and slow furnace cooled.
ASTM A572 covers structural quality, high strength, columbium-vanadium low alloy steel. ASTM A572GR50 steel Machinability Machinability of Grade 50 alloy is fair. It is basically like AISI 8615 low alloy steel. Forming This steel contains more alloying elements than plain carbon steel and thus is somewhat more difficult to form. Welding
ASTM A572. The ASTM A572 specification is the Standard Specification for High-Strength Low-Alloy Columbium-Vanadium Structural Steel for plates used in general construction and structural applications. ASTM A572 includes five grades with specified minimum yield strengths of 42, 50, 55, 60, and 65 ksi, respectively.
ASTM A572-50 Steel Manufacturing Importance of High-Strength Steel in Yard Ramp Construction How is ASTM A572-50 plate steel manufactured? ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) A572-50 plates are hot rolled structural steel with industry leading tolerance, concentricity, and straightness due to the addition of strong carbide and nitride formers that produce a small and fine grain a572 gr50 machinability

A572 gR.50 steel Welding A572 steel has excellent weldability and can be welded with simple procedures and common consumables such as E7018. A572 gR.50 steel APPLICATIONS ASTM A572 Grade 50 is considered a "workhorse" grade and is widely used in many applications. Steel mills produce channel and heavy beams with Grade 50.
Leeco Steel distributes A572 steel plate is used in a variety of structural applications including bridges, buildings, construction equipment, and more. We distribute A572 steel plate in the following grades: Grade 42, Grade 50, Grade, 55, Grade 60, and Grade 65.
A572 Steel General Information. The ASTM A572 carbon steel specification covers the standard requirements for Grades 42, 50, 55, 60, and 65 for high-strength low-alloy columbium-vanadium structural steel shapes, plates and bars for applications in bolted, riveted and welded structures in bridges and buildings.
A709 Gr.50W steel Machinability Machinability of Grade 50 steel is fair. It is an alloy steel and thus tougher to machine than ordinary plain carbon steel. Grade 50 behaves similar to AISI 8615 alloy steel in regard to machining. BEBON supply A709 Gr.50w many years in China mainland bridge projects.
High-strength low-alloy structural steel plate, thick 8~300mm A572Gr50 high strength low alloy structural steel is widely used in engineering structures, such as the construction of steel structures, construction machinery, mining machinery, heavy-duty trucks, bridges, pressure vessels, especially for good weldability and toughness of the architectural and engineering mechanical components.
A high-strength low-alloy steel plate that is utilized in a variety of structural applications. This specification is produced in Grades 42, 50, 55, 60 & 65, the grades representing the yield strength.

Both ASTM A36 carbon steel and ASTM A572 grade 50 are iron alloys. Both are furnished in the as-fabricated (no temper or treatment) condition. They have a very high 99% of their average alloy composition in common. For each property being compared, the top bar is ASTM A36 carbon steel and the bottom bar is ASTM A572 grade 50.
The only "Grade 50" plate I know of is, A572-Gr50. It is a standard structural steel, with a yield of 50KPSI. I machine it using standard SFM for milling and turning. milling: 375-650 SFM milling using 1/2" AlTin, carbide, 4 -6 fl end mills turning: 500-1020 SFM for turning, insert dependent.
